Best Keyboard and Mouse Settings for Fortnite

Setting up Fortnite binds is more than just solving physical conflicts. You do not want your index finger trying to press against the wall key, weapon swap, and edit key all at the exact second while you are trying to dodge a shotgun blast.
These are actual setups that are built around how your hands work. These can help you optimize speed without subjecting your hands and fingers to a challenging twister game. You want controls that feel natural so that you do not have to force your hands into weird contortions.
This will also prevent your aim from flying over the screen when you panic. Let’s keep it smooth and natural.
Keybinds that are just utterly comfortable for your hands
Keep this in mind. When you are in a clash with someone, your left hand should stay close to the movement keys. So you have to stay in touch with W,A,S, and D keys as much as possible.
If you have to take your hands off or away from these keys in order for you to build your wall, you are a sitting duck. You are exposing yourself, unable to defend yourself from any attack.
Here’s our recommendation for building and editing
Wall and Ramp: the two side buttons on your mouse
Put these on your thumb. This frees up your left hand completely. With the left hand free, this can help you reassign vital combat actions to your pinky finger. This can help improve control and reaction times.
Floor: Q
This is right next to the W key. This will be very easy for your ring finger to tap.
This is a fast and comfortable choice for a ring finger for both gaming and typing. Your ring finger sits naturally on the A key. Making a quick upward swipe to the Q key is very feasible and surprisingly fast during intense fights.
Cone: C or V
Instead of your tying fingers, tap these keys with your left thumb. This also keeps your WASD finger movement free.
The C key is situated near the center. Thus making it a natural drop for your left thumb from the spacebar.
The V key is located further to the right. This almost always feels clean and fast for some hand shapes and can help you refrain from hitting the spacebar by mistake.
Edit: E
This key is the easiest and fastest to tap.
The E key is naturally situated above the D key on standard QWERTY keyboards. This positioning makes it easy for your index fingers to rest in the central zone. This makes it the quickest and most responsive key to tap without breaking your core movement flow on the WASD.
The E key is fast and easy. It sits right next to W, A,S and D. It takes only a very short and quick upward flick of the index finger and not a long and uncomfortable stretch.
This feels naturally ergonomic too. This prevents your hands from sliding. Should this happen, it can make you react much slower during intense combat fights.
Instant reset edit: Scroll wheel down
Go to settings and set both the Edit and Reset Edit to scrolling down. So when you need to close an edit, all you have to do is flick your wheel down.
Set both building Edit and Reset Edit as a secondary bind while keeping your main edit keys. This can instantly fix the wall.
How fast can it get? This can bypass the traditional multi-step process of clicking a tile, pressing a separate reset key, and confirming the edit.
Try these for guns and movement
Master gunplay and try these for guns and movement in Fortnite.
Shotgun 2
Place your main weapon right above the W key. This will enable you to pull it out faster.
This enables more uninterrupted movement. Moving your finger briefly from the W key to right above it allows you to keep pushing forward when swapping gears.
This also means reduced travel distance. With the keys close to your home row, it requires less finger movement than reaching across the keyboard.
Crouch or slide
Use your pinky than crouching with the ctrl key. Using your pinky to tap the ctrl key rather than crouching allows you to keep your middle, index, and ring finger free on the WASD movement keys.
Aim and mouse speed
New players tend to go very fast. While this seems to be the way to go during intense combat fights, you are going to miss your shotgun shots with blazing speed.
That’s why balancing both aspects is essential. A high-speed mouse can help you build and edit quickly, but a low-speed one can lend better precision for shooting.
Keep this in mind: the lower the speed, the more precise the aim.
This helps you track enemy movements smoothly. Control weapon recoil is also better at this point.
In-game speed
Set your main sensitivity to approximately 5 to 7 percent. The low density can prevent your crosshair from shaking. Also, tracking enemies will be much easier, and long range rifle shots can hit targets more successfully.
The mousepad test
Put your mouse on the left edge of the pad and slide it to the right edge. Your character should turn around once or twice , and not spin like a top. If it runs too fast, turn the percentage a notch down.
Additional tips
Here are 3 setups that we absolutely recommend you should turn on right now.
Disable pre edits
This stops you from accidentally hitting a wall before you can even build it. This forces all structures to spawn in their original shape and size, thus helping you prevent fatal mistakes during the fast-paced combat fights.
Auto open doors
If you accidentally edit a door into a wall mid-fight, your character will automatically push through it instead of bumping into it. This can fix mistakes faster, helps you save time, and keeps your focus on aiming. You will not get stuck in any wood frame or metal.
Confirm edit on release
The second you let go of your left click button, your edit finishes. This means you do not have to press the E key twice.
This means that your edit happens quicker since it only takes fewer motions.
It’s more about natural movement
Mastering Fortnite goes beyond just memorizing a pro’s exact setup. It is more about building a system that feels very natural. This can help you build more control and eliminate unnecessary finger stretching akin to a contortionist’s show.
Give your muscle memory a few days to adjust. And once these controls become second nature to you, you can start winning more fights and less fighting with your keyboard.
