Is it mandatory to empty your robot dustbin every day? Well, the beauty of more upgraded robot vacuums is that you need to empty the bin less often, you might not even realize it.

But it all depends on what type of robot vacuum you are using. So let’s break it down below.

Manual vs automatic

The frequency of cleaning depends on whether you are using a robot vacuum that has a self-emptying bin or one that does not.

Smarter units with an automatic feature go to the docking station once the bins are full. The unit drops the collected debris to a larger storage. With this convenience, you need to empty the dustbin less often, every few times a month. But for more advanced and upgraded models, you only need to empty the dustbin every 30 to 60 days.

However, manual units, require more tedious cleanup. Sans this automatic feature, you need to empty the dustbin every 2 to 3 days.

Though keep in mind that this is a general rule, it can still change depending on several factors.

Things that can affect this

Not all homes have the same circumstances. So while there is a simple general rule on dustbin emptying, these factors can heavily affect the frequency.

Size of the room and frequency of cleaning

The larger a space, the more dust and dirt it collects. And if you use your robot every day, it will easily pile up on dust as compared to using it just once a week.

Type of dirt

The amount of pet dander and fur will also be double or triple if you are looking in a multi-pet household. You also need to empty the larger storage to ensure that bacteria don’t thrive in there. This means that your robot vacuum will be working overtime to keep your space clean and snazzy.

Of course, those without a self-emptying feature, need to be cleaned out possibly every day for homes with pets.

The type of floor you have

Carpets can collect dust and dirt faster than hardwood floors and tiles. And let’s not get started on talking about pets. The amount of fur that gets tangled in carpets can be insane, especially during shedding season. And if you have longhaired cats and dogs aplenty, it can be quite messy with clumps of fur tucked in between the fibers of your carpets, especially for higher-piled ones.

Why Should You Regularly Empty the Dustbin?

Aside from not having to do it as often compared to manual older units, there are a lot of reasons why you should be on top of this.

It keeps the integrity of your robots

Regular cleaning can help extend the lifespan of your machine. And it can also save you from the hassle and time of doing extensive cleaning.

If you regularly empty the dustbin, you don’t need to carry out extensive cleaning as often. You will also spend less time doing so since debris and dirt don’t needlessly pile up.

It maximizes the cleaning power

Emptying the dustbin before it gets full is advisable. This can maintain the integrity of the machine and ensure that the suction power is at its maximum. It also makes cleaning more efficient.
