A lot of brands come to mind, but today, we are testing the espresso meter and caffeine junkies’ satisfaction for Fellow Aiden and Moccamaster. Let’s see which can make a better hug in a mug.

Aiden: Hits the Spot when it Comes to Customization

The beauty of home brewing lies in customization. You will be able to control certain aspects of your cup. With a coffee maker that allows such, you can enjoy a classic coffee to a more personalized one that can hit all the spots in your taste buds. Customization is also crucial if you are trying to stay healthier and make your mug a bit on the green side.

This is where the Aiden Fellow will blow you away. This goes beyond just the usual customization a lot of  drip coffee makers already offer. You will be able to control all components in making a tasty and comforting cup of coffee.

Aiden Fellow gives you crazy control over a lot of things. You can easily make your signature coffee without ever having to learn from the master barista.

What makes the Aiden Fellow a hit among a lot of coffee connoisseurs of all ages and expertise level is that this is an uncomplicated machine that can do all the complicated stuff for you.  Think about precise temperature control, bloom time and water flow rate and that is just the beginning.

Simply put, it’s an uncomplicated master. The user interface is very intuitive, it’s user friendly and doesn’t entail any learning curve. But it is a sophisticated machine with advanced features set to the brim. What’s fascinating is that despite having all these advanced controls and more modern upgrades, anyone can use them. A lot of folks are very happy with how they can personalize their coffee to the sky’s limit. You can even use your mobile phones  to make a hot and toasty brew.

Not all are fans of modern upgrades and convenience.  Not all will get excited about the fact that you can make coffee using your mobile phone. If you’re content and in love with the old-fashioned art of making your guests a nice aromatic brew, this app connectivity can just be a hassle or an unnecessary feature for you. But believe us, sans the love for the traditional brewing method, you will become intrigued with this and can somehow put you in a loop of curiosity; you may even start to appreciate how you can use your phone to make a great cup.

It’s sophisticated but does not look like it.

Here’s the irony: how much of an upgrade the features are is the exact opposite when it comes to the entire look of the coffee maker. We were always blown away by Fellow coffee makers, but this one has been simply made. It is quite boxy and very plain Jane.  You won’t be able to tell that it has a ton of surprises up its sleeves.

While aesthetics might not be the best features, this coffee maker is built like a tank. It can last for a lifetime. Out of the box, you can see that this bad boy can last a ton of coffee dates at home.

Do not be dismayed by how it looks, it’s not too shabby, just very boxy borderline boring. This particular model is a far cry from other coffee makers of the brand.

More nifty features

We’ve mentioned a lot of upgraded aspects of these coffee makers, such as the water temperature. But there are quite a handful of simple yet ingenious additions that can make you fall in love with it. This almost basic-looking feature ended up making a lot of difference to how you enjoy your home-made brew; it can level up your experience. It has a removable side-mounted water reservoir and a rubber gasket on the lid that can prevent steam escaping during brewing. This ends the problem of the brew chamber hitting the overhead cabinets.

And this maintains a consistent and precise temperature of water during the brewing process.  This particular bit here is very crucial in maximizing the flavor of the beans. And without the chamber hitting the overhead of your cabinets, that is less anxiety on your end. The mixture of simple ingenious features and modern upgrades makes the Aiden Fellow a very well-thought-of machine.

It’s very versatile. You can make small batches or bigger batches of coffee with the same machine. You just need to use a larger flat-bottom filter basket. And use the wrong basket, the coffee maker will let you know. So even on a clueless day, you cannot go wrong in making a great cup, just how exciting is that?

The machine also keeps you in the loop of what is happening in the kitchen. While the machine is busy brewing your coffee, it shows everything you need to see on the screen.

Moccamaster: Traditional Approach

While a lot of brands are busy coming up with more upgraded and advanced features, Moccamaster held on to one of the more old-school models in their line, the original Moccamaster. This is built like a tank, and despite not having the niceties and luxuries of smart coffee makers, it remains one of the more popular choices among a lot of coffee loving homes. When you want to make great coffee the old fashioned way, you keep this in your kitchen.

This is  a very basic functioning drip coffee maker. Even with the lack of crazy upgrades, it can never fail to make a great cup of coffee every single time. When it comes to flavor, it will never let you down. Also, it is one of the handful kitchen countertop essentials that can stay with you for the longer haul.

We’re talking about the more traditional and classic unit, but how about the upgraded Moccamaster?

These upgraded more modern units  have some centers that can help you make your brew just the way you like it.  It can offer some sense of liberty when it comes to how you make your coffee.

For instance, take the Moccamaster KBGV Select. This  offers  a handful of thoughtful upgrades. Though this unit is still quite identical to how the original  looks and performs, it is  just a bit more high tech and edgy. Well, the brand has to keep up with the modern advancements right? Every unit speaks of high quality and everything is handmade in the Netherlands. So  no matter which unit you use, it can last a  lifetime.

The KBGV may not be the most upgraded coffee maker and not at par with the Aiden’s more genius controls, but it will never fail to make a great tasting coffee each time. In terms of adjustability and functionality, you can get your money’s worth.

The line of Moccamaster coffee makers are quite identical, you can see that right there and then, each unit just sports a specific feature that can set it apart from the other modes. If you need smaller capacity, go for the Moccamaster KBTS.  or maybe go for the Moccamaster Cup-One, this is an awesome little single serve brewer. It’s perfect if you just need to enjoy a single cup at a time.

Aiden vs Moccamaster: Which one is for you?

Let’s start with the more obvious comparison, the aesthetics.
From  the get go, Moccamaster coffee makers are quite aesthetic, even the more basic model, albeit it having traditional functions, has quite a luxurious and modern look. It can sit pretty in the middle of your countertop and not need any fancy equipment, it will shine in itself.

The Aiden, on the other hand, despite having a ton of controls and more sophisticated functions, appears very basic and borderline boring.

But the real competition is the output.

So, which makes better coffee?

Here’s the thing, it can be quite hard to choose which coffee maker whips up a better cup of Joe.

As mentioned, Aiden Fellow allows for crazy optimization. So if you are a coffee connoisseur who wants to control every aspect of your mug to satisfy your taste buds to the brim, this is for you. It lets you control even the tiniest detail.

The Moccamaster, especially the original mode, offers a simpler and more old fashioned way of making your favorite brew.  You can get consistent  great coffee each time with minimal input.

But this downside is that you will have less control over the entire process. If you’re the type who wants to just sit back and not mind whatever or however the coffee maker brews your mug in a mug, you will be happy with the more affordable and straightforward Moccamaster.

Also, you can make coffee faster with this simpler machine, with fewer functions and choices, you can enjoy your coffee faster.   This also has a more tank-like build, though both look like they can last for the longer haul; the Moccamaster can outlive the Aiden.

So it’s just a matter of determining which is a better love affair for you. Both can serve excellent coffee; there are just a ton of differences in how each makes it. One with lots of liberty, while the other provides very little control to none.
